Leadership Training

Boards that can't govern and superintendents who can't lead — those are the failure modes that quietly destroy California school districts. We train both sides of the governance equation to do better.

Our approach

How we work

Our training is built for boards and senior staff who already operate at the top of K-12 but need new vocabulary for new pressures: AB 1200 fiscal posture, bond program oversight, CBOC mechanics, governance under increased political scrutiny, and crisis communications. Sessions are designed around John Carver Policy Governance or your existing board operating model.

What you get

Deliverables

  • Board governance workshops (full-day or multi-session)
  • Superintendent–board relationship coaching
  • Bond program oversight training for boards
  • Crisis communications and board meeting management
  • Custom session design per district priorities

Outcomes

Boards that ask better questions and superintendents who get better answers.

Frequently asked

Questions districts ask us

Who attends leadership training?

Most sessions are for the board plus cabinet together. Some districts run board-only sessions; others run 'all-hands' trainings that include site administrators. We design around the audience.

How long is a typical engagement?

A standalone workshop is a full day. Multi-session engagements (typical for governance overhauls) run quarterly across a year.

Do you train on Carver Policy Governance specifically?

Yes — John Carver Policy Governance is one of the frameworks we work in, alongside Lighthouse, traditional Robert's Rules-based governance, and hybrid models. We meet boards where they are rather than imposing a single doctrine.
